To help kickstart us on our new journey of discovery, last week, along with rooms 1, 4, 7 and 9 we took a wonderful trip to Butterfly Creek in Mangere.
After a very excited bus ride, our adventure begins with a refuel (most important).
Once we were reenergised, we were given a talk about the butterflies. We learnt some important facts about the butterflies and the differences between butterflies and moths.
From here, we headed to the butterfly house. We noticed that the temperature was much warmer inside. The humid temperature is perfect for the butterflies to survive.
Butterflies are attracted to bright colours, especially red. We were so delighted when they landed on us. They tickled!
The food for the butterflies is placed around their enclosure.
They like sucking the nectar from flowers and fruit. These flowers are artificial (fake), but nectar is placed on them. The butterflies use their long spiral tongues to suck up the juice like a straw.
Next we visited 'Goldie' the crocodile. We're glad we didn't get up close and personal with this croc!
Even though these are baby crocodiles they can bite. We were glad they are safely behind thick glass enclosures.
We were happy to be standing on this side of the window!
Next adventure is the train ride.
All aboard!
We'll wait for the next train!
After our train ride it was off to the animal farm.
We saw chinchila's...
rabbits...
mother duck and her ducklings two...
a wallaby...
an alpaca...
off course chickens and a rooster...
and even some young farmers!
We thought we might get to see a troll while the goats were crossing the bridge.
Whew! So glad we didn't.
The Crocodile show was next. We were hoping to see Goldie play with a toy (long rope with tee-shirts attached) that the keeper dangled in front of him. But Goldie wasn't having any of it! He was happy to just chill out in the water.
Finally, we got to get too up close and too personal with a tarantula!
We were relieved that it remained in its container!
Thank you to the wonderful staff at Butterfly Creek and our wonderful parent helpers.
You made our visit very special. We learnt alot about butterflies, crocodiles and other farm animals.
